My favourite website for accommodation is Booking.com. It is hands down the most efficient, reliable and informative accommodation booking website I’ve used yet. Other good websites are Hostel Bookers (for hostels, obviously) and Last Minute (for hotels). I try and make a habit of cross-checking reviews on a website like Trip Advisor, but oftentimes there’s such a variance in reviews I want to pull out my hair.

If it’s something more long term that you’re after though, like a sublet or a vacation rental, the best sites will vary depending on the country and the city. In Germany, for example, there’s a website that caters to expats called Toytown and it is brilliant. In other places I’ve done well with either Craig’s List (better for Europe) or Gumtree (better for the UK), so have a look at those websites too. There are, unfortunately a lot of dodgy people out there who have nothing better to do than scam people, so be wary! Oh, and read this!
