Ökomarkt am Kollwitzplatz

Fridays:

Lausitzer Platz Organic Market – organic food market.

When: Fridays from noon to 6pm.

Location: Lausitzer Platz.

Getting there: Görlitzer Bahnhof U1.

Turkish Market – from fresh fruit and veggies to jewellery, yards of fabric and clothing. I was there at 11am on the dot and the market was in full swing almost from the word go. I surveyed the vegetables sandwiched between a throng of Turkish housewives haggling over fresh eggs and baskets of arugula. If buying your fruit and veg. is too calm an experience for you at the supermarket… you can always come here instead.

When: Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am to 6pm.

Location: Landwehrkanal, Kreuzberg.

Getting there: Schönleinstrasse U8.

Saturdays:

Karl August Platz Market – fresh produce market.

When: Wednesdays 8am to 1pm & Saturdays 8am to 2pm.

Location: Karl August Platz in Charlottenburg.

Getting there: Bismarkstrasse/Wilmersdorferstrasse U7 or U2.

Ökomarkt am Kollwitzplatz – small organic food market.

When: noon to 7pm every Thursday and Saturday from 9am to 4pm.

Location: Kollwitzplatz in Prenzlauerberg.

Getting there: Senefelderplatz U2.

Zille-Hof – flea market.

When: Mondays to Fridays from 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 1pm.

Location: Fasanenstrasse 14, Charlottenburg.

Getting there: Uhlandstraße U1 or Zoologischer Garten U2/U9.

Sundays:

Arkona Platz – flea market featuring bric-a-brac, 70’s furniture, handbags and random other bits and pieces. After checking this market out, take a 5-10 minute stroll over to Mauerpark (see below). Click here for photos from my visit.

When: Sundays from 10am to 3:30pm.

Location: Arkonaplatz, Mitte.

Getting there: Bernauer Straße U8.

Flohmarkt am Mauerpark – flea market where you’ll find everything but the kitchen sink for sale; food, drinks, household items, clothes, bicycles… a whole array of random stuff. Makes for great Sunday wandering. Plus, you can take a break halfway through with a bite to eat and a drink in the centre ‘food courtyard’. When you’re done, have a peek over at the half of the park not covered with market stalls. Besides the young couples going for a stroll and the older men playing boules/petanque, I’ve seen a spontaneous mini-rave and a karaoke session pop up here. Click here for photos from my visit.

When: Sundays from 7am to 5pm.

Location: Mauerpark, Mitte.

Getting there: Eberswalder Straße U2 or Bernauer Straße U8.

Saturdays and Sundays:

Kunst und Nostalgie Markt (the art and nostalgia market) – antiques and art items, cold war memorabilia, books and old records. Click here for photos from my visit.

When: Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

Location: Museumsinsel, Mitte.

Getting there: Friedrichstrasse U6 or S1 / S2 / S5 / S7 / S9 / S25 / S75.

Boxhagener Platz – come on a Saturday for the farmer’s market and return on Sunday for the flea market. I’ve been told you’ll find one-of-a-kind t-shirts, cheap electronics, secondhand motorcycle helmets, books and cds, designer clothes and hipster sportswear.

When: farmer’s market on Saturday 8am – 1:30pm and flea market on Sunday from 10am to 6pm. That being said, I sauntered over one Sunday afternoon at around 4:15pm and almost everything had been packed up. Granted it wasn’t exactly warm and summery outside, but perhaps it’s best to go as early as possible.

Location: at the junction of Gabriel-Max-Strasse and Grünbergerstrasse, Friedrichshain.

Getting there: Samariterstraße U5 or tram 21 or Warschauer Strasse U1.

Strasse des 17. Juni – flea market. This flea market is one of Berlin’s most well-known and has two parts to it. One offers clothing, music and pretty much anything else, while the other specialises in antiques (such as cold war nostalgia items), arts and crafts.

When: Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 7pm.

Location: Straße des 17. Juni, Tiergarten.

Getting there: Ernst-Reuter-Platz U2.

Heidestrasse – small undercover flea market. You’ll find furniture, antiques, books, odds and ends, collectables, books, records and model cars.

When: Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm (the earlier the better as they do sometimes pack up early).

Location: Heidestrasse 10, Tiergarten.

Getting there: Reinickendorfer Strasse U6.

Others:

Domäne Dahlem Weihnachts Markt – Christmas market. Apparently they sell delicious plates of goose and potatoes for around €8. One way to find out….

When: generally on Saturdays and Sundays in December from 11 am to 7 pm.

Cost: Admission is €1.

Location: Königin-Luise-Straße 49.

Getting there: Dahlem-Dorf U3.
